CVP : Spatial Representations of WWW - Structures to enhance Navigation , Presentation and Communication

The Cyberspace Visualization Project – CVP – explores techniques for interactive 3D visualizations of the web, supporting orientation and basic communicational features1. Users can represent themselves within these visualizations and thus become aware of each other. This could be a base for a more direct communication on the web. Current software components are introduced and a placement algorithm is described. The algorithm creates recognizable overviews of web regions as hierarchically structured 3D spaces, giving information about the origin of the documents. The author's vision of the WWW future is to transform the inanimate and discrete universe of isolated web pages to a multimedia 3D space inhabited by its users.
